Moyco Precision Abrasives, Inc., a subsidiary of Moyco Technologies, Inc., traces its roots back to 1893. In the beginning, Moyco was a dental supply company, manufacturing various products in the city of Philadelphia, PA, including dental abrasive products. In the 1970s, Moyco acquired a small division from the Pfizer Corp. called Ultralap, which gave the company its start into producing products for precision and industrial polishing. Moyco now sells products globally to a wide range of industries where superior performance in lapping, griding and polishing is required.
EARLY BEGINNINGS
1893A.P. DeSanno and C.W. Hussey form a partnership. They begin manufacturing items such as dental cements and alloys.
1910Dr. J. Bird Moyer, B.S., Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry at the Pennsylvania College of Surgery, joins the company and its name changes to J. Bird Moyer Co., Inc. The company is located at 20th and Berks Streets, Philadelphia, PA.
1932The facilities relocate to 1210-1214 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA
GROWTH / DEVELOPMENT
1947Jose Alfonso DeGaray moves the company to 121 North 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA
1963The company moves to a larger facility at 21st and Clearfield Streets, Philadelphia, PA
1968The company purchases the manufacturing rights to a product called "Flex-I-Grit" . Flex-I-Grit is a polyester-backed adhesive in keeping with the abrasive end of the dental supply field. Its use will extend into the hobby, hardware, cosmetic, metallurgical, nail and other aligned industries.
